Juliet Scott was married for five years. Three of them were good. She was young, Damien was too. They were in love and carefree; had fun and had a lot of sex, traveled to a lot of places. She'd been on track to start med school but when she met Damien, she wanted him instead, and she thought she'd always choose him over everything.

Until she got pregnant.

He stuck around for a few months but then, conveniently his job took him away and the stretches of time between being home and being gone were longer. He was never a bad dad to Mia, not once, but it was like a chore to be home, to be a husband and civilian again. Juliet missed him but she tried to talk to him about it and it was a fight, every time. He had a job, he had missions, he couldn't just give that up. So she decided a year and a half ago to not make him choose anymore. She sent him divorce papers, certified mail, with a letter explaining to him that she was tired of feeling like she and Mia weren't a priority. Like he didn't want to be there when he was back in the states. She wasn't surprised when she got the signed paperwork back with no note in response.

She and Mia have been solo ever since, the two of them moving to Miami to be closer to Juliet's sister. Med school finally happens, and now Juliet's an intern and Mia is five. It's been hard, harder than Juliet ever thought she'd have to do on her own, but she's doing it. She's never told Damien he can't be a part of Mia's life, she's never tried to keep him away from her. When she moves, she makes sure someone in his branch of the military, wherever he is, gets her address. She's not even angry at him anymore, just sad that it ended this way between them.

Their baby is just so damn cute, and Damien grins when she gets to eat her happy meal and is so excited about the toy. They all eat together right there on the couch, with Damien holding Mia in his lap.

Every time Mia takes a bite of a nugget, she holds it up to Damien to share with him, just wanting to do everything with him since he's home and with her and everything is perfect again in her little mind.

"Daddy can we still do stuff even with a new baby?" she asks him.

"Always, baby. You're my girl, we're always gonna do stuff together," he promises her, kissing the top of her head.

"Okay," she says with a happy smile, apparently pleased by this answer as she keeps eating. When she's all done, she goes right to her huge dinosaur and new happy meal toy, so happy about just these two simple things.

At bedtime, as her daddy is tucking her in, Mia looks up at him with her wide, blue eyes. "This was the best day of my whole life, daddy."

He actually gets choked up completely, unable to speak for a moment as she says that. There are tears shining in his eyes and he smiles back at her, stroking her little cheek. "This was the best day of my whole life, too, baby," he tells her, kissing her forehead. "Just like the day you were born."

Juliet's watching from the doorway and wipes away a happy tear as she smiles, leaning her head against the doorframe. Once Damien's done saying goodnight, she makes her way forward and bends down to kiss Mia's forehead tenderly. "Daddy's pretty special, huh?" she asks, and Mia grins and nods. They say goodnight, then turn on her nightlight, turn out the light, and go to their room.

There's still a lingering smile on her face, her happiness absolutely making her glow.

When he sees her just smiling, he takes her hands and kisses her deeply, grinning right back at her. "You know my other favorite day? The day I met you. You changed my whole fucking life, Juliet. You made it better. You make it better everyday."

"What made you talk to the quiet girl reading a book in a restaurant alone?" she asks with a soft smile, wrapping her arms around him.

"I thought you had a story to tell me. A really good one," he grins. "Turns out, I was fucking right."

[dharmalady]

"Every woman throwing themselves at you, and you picked me. I wasn't even interested in you," she smirks, beginning to undress him.

"You just had to warm up to me a little," he grins, working to undress her in return.

[dharmalady]

"Baby, do you ever stop being warm?" she laughs, letting him do all of the undressing of her because it takes longer with her cast.

He gives her a mischievous grin because they both know the answer to that. Leaning in, he kisses her deeply as he gets her naked and then gently pushes her down against the pillows.

"You're so fucking gorgeous, Juliet."

Juliet smiles softly and stretches out, fully splayed for him to see. "I didn't think it, always. But you made me believe it," she smiles softly, parting her legs for him to do anything he wants.

He has to just caress her skin for a moment, his fingers stroking over every curve before he leans in to dote on her, kissing from her neck down to her pelvis and back again.

"I've never seen anyone more beautiful," he tells her so sincerely, with so much love.

Reaching up, she cradles his face in her hands. "Damien, you make me feel so amazing, you know that?" she asks him softly. "And I want....I want people to know there's no reason to leave their number for you anymore." Her hand takes his, circling his ring finger.

"I already know I wanna marry you again," he tells her with a wide smile, kissing her. "I wanna be your husband. More than anything, Jules."

[dharmalady]

"Hang on. Hang on," she says, shifting onto her side for a second and moving to her nightstand. She rifles through it, wraps her hand around something and then rolls onto her back again, looking up at him. Then, she takes his hand and slips his old ring on his finger. "I kept it. Mine too," she says softly, showing him her ring still in her palm.

"Baby..." Damien is so emotional, jaw dropping a little as he takes her ring first, sliding it onto her finger. Then he gives her his ring, wanting her to put it on his finger.

She does, then laces their fingers together and looks up at him. "We can make it official later. And I want to, before the baby's born. But for now..." Her voice breaks a little, getting emotional as well. "Thank you for coming back to me." And she means in more ways than one.

He kisses her, over and over again, cradling her face. "You're the only one, baby. The only one I could ever come home to."

[dharmalady]

Pressing her lips down the side of his neck, she presses her face there for a second. "I missed this the most. you holding me. Your arms around me so I feel safe," Juliet admits.

He nuzzles at her, breathing her in, wrapping her up completely in his arms now so she feels safe, the way he knows she missed. "I've got you."

[dharmalady]

"You've got us both," she murmurs, taking his hand and pressing it to her belly. "We'll always be safe with you." Juliet, without a doubt, trusts Damien with her life, and she always has. She always will.

"You and Mia, and our new baby girl," he smiles, keeping his hand there before kissing her deeply again, pressing his hips close to her.
